A few weeks ago, Isaiah was studying the Alamo all about Texas history at school. Part of that history included learning about Native Americans, or Indians. (Disclaimer: No intention to be politically correct here, just saying it how it has been told by a 6-year-old)
He really got into the study and talked about the Alamo and how all the "Mexicos" (I think he meant Mexican soldiers) killed everyone but then they were captured by the Texans reinforcements. During dinner one night, Isaiah was saying our evening prayers when he asked the Lord to "please provide food for the Indians since they have none." It was so out of the blue that I had to restrain myself from blurting out during the prayer in laughter. We ate and I tried to let some time pass when I asked my son why he thought the "Indians" needed food. He looked me straight in the eye and said, "because mommy they don't have any pockets to carry their money to buy food or put it away in those tepee things they live in." After a long pause and breath so that I didn't laugh I had to explain to him that it didn't make them poor if they had no pockets (he was referring to their dress). We continued to discuss that even in today's world lots of people wear clothes without pockets. He said yes so they too must need our prayers, but not the Mexicos because they wore those uniforms that had pockets.
I just love how caring he was for those pocketless Indians. At least he noticed something about them! And they say kids don't learn anything about Texas history in school...I beg to differ.
